Beaches & Watersports:
Mauritius is blessed with miles and miles of gorgeous beaches.  The island is surrounded by a coral reef and the marine life is fantastic.  You can go snorkelling, diving or deep sea fishing and you'll probably see molluscs, turtles, dolphins and hundreds of fish.  Watersports and waterskiing are also popular and easily organised though most hotels.  Or you can simply soak up the sunshine on one of the beautiful beaches.

Food & Drink:
Definitely one of Mauritius's highlights.  You can enjoy an amazing array of cross-cultural cuisine from Creole and European to Chinese and Indian.  Seafood is a speciality as are curries.  Some staple favourites include rougaille, a mixed Mediterranean dish with fish or meat mixed with tomatoes, onions and garlic; and daube, a tasty octopus stew.  Wine is expensive as it is usually imported from France or South Africa but the local beer (called Phoenix or Blue Marlin) is cheap and the latter is potent!  Because of the local sugar cane production there are of course a number of local Rums.

The People:
The Mauritians are friendly folk and nothing is too much trouble for them.  The diversity of their culture and language creates a perfect mix of gastronomic, musical and even shopping delights.

The Weather:
The weather is warm and tropical all year round.  The hottest and humid months are December to April where average daytime temperatures are 28c / 86f and can easily reach the low 30c / 90f.  The "cooler" drier months are June to November when average daytime temperatures are 25c / 80f.
